Other Ways to Give Securities Great news for donors! Gifts of securities are now the most tax efficient way to make a charitable donation thanks to the elimination of capital gains on donations of publicly traded securities. Securities that can be donated are stocks, bonds, and mutual funds, but excludes shares in private corporations and stock options. You can donate securities to Out On Screen easily and safely through our online giving program Canada Helps. It is easy to do, and will only take a few minutes of your time. If you have any questions please call Will Pratt, Director of Development for Out On Screen at 604-844-1615, or email will@outonscreeen.com Learn more about the benefits of donating securities through Canada Helps. Making a gift in your will A charitable gift through one's last will and testament, known as a bequest, can be in the form of a sum of money, a specific property, a percentage of the residue of your estate or a contingency gift. The tax credit resulting from a bequest can provide valuable tax savings to your estate. Registered Retirement Savings Plan By designating your RRSP's or RRIF's or a portion of them to Out On Screen you can create considerable tax savings for your estate. Life Insurance Life Insurance is one of the easiest and most affordable ways to make a legacy gift, and results in a current tax deduction. If you find that you have an existing life insurance policy that is no longer required for its original purpose, it is easy to make this policy a gift. Another way to give with life insurance is by purchasing a new policy and naming Out On Screen as both the owner and beneficiary. A tax receipt is issued for each premium payment that will mean immediate tax savings. Strip bond "Strip" may sound risqué, but actually they are a great giving alternative. The purchase of a strip bond will mean a small payment today for a substantial gift to Out On Screen in the future. Strip bonds are a great way to give. The reason is simple: because the principal can be locked in for up to 30 years, the return of a properly established strip bond is normally quite large. Giving a strip bond means that you are making a major future donation by giving a small amount in the present. Trusts With a trust the donor transfers title of a money earning asset (i.e. investment) to Out On Screen but we continue to transfer to the donor all the income that is earned on it. When the donor dies the asset and all of the income it earns belongs to Out On Screen. Endowment fund By making a donation to our endowment fund you will be helping to secure a future for Queer arts in Vancouver. Your contribution will be placed in trust with our fund manager, the Vancouver Foundation; the principle you donate remains in tact and the income earned from your donation will be reinvested for the future. Donations to the endowment fund can be made either with cash or publicly traded securities. If you have any questions or would like to donate please call Will Pratt, Director of Development for Out On Screen at 604-844-1615, or email will@outonscreeen.com
