Office Partners Under the direction of Director of Members and
Operations Personality You are dedicated and skilled in the
wizardry of office management and administration. You love computers and papers
and stationary. You like to know the office you’re involved in well. You may
also have won the “Best Attendance” award at school. Oohhh the Staples
Catalogue… You will work on longer-term projects, have weekly responsibilities and become imbued in the weekly goings on of the Out On Screen office. You can commit to one, two-hour shift every week (or two) during weekdays from noon to 7pm. Every five hours you volunteer gets you one voucher. 6-7 volunteers. Send Kristina at volunteer@outonscreen.com the application form and your resume. Office Quickies Under the direction of Director of Members and
Operations Personality You like to hang out in offices and don’t
mind menial tasks. You know your way around a computer, photocopier and fax
machine. You have been known to stamp an envelope or two in your time. You are
not really into committing to one office long-term. You have a flexible
schedule and can come in on short notice or when a really big project needs
some personpower. Tasks We will call you when we have basic stuff to get done. The email would sound like: “Eek, we need help to mail these 2,500 letters” or “We need to enter all these memberships in two weeks” or “200 people want to join our mailing list, help us enter their addresses.” You’ll come as often as you can. Every five hours you volunteer gets you one voucher. We don’t like to limit ourselves. There is always room for one more. Out in Schools Under direction of Director of Youth Education We are always seeking Facilitators and volunteers with special events, fundraising and administrative skills. Email Ross at ross@outonscreen.com with a write-up about yourself and a resume highlighting your relevant experience. Queer History
Project Website Working Group Under direction of Queer History Project Coordinator Set the direction and frame for the new website. To apply
to volunteer for this team contact Kristina at volunteer@outonscreen.com. Street Teams Under the direction of Director of Members and
Operations & Marketing and Community Relations Coordinator Personality You’re on the town, you’re talking to people, and you’re someone who knows everyone (or who wants to). You love to be on the guestlist or get into a show for free. Talking to strangers doesn’t scare you. You like night life. Year round Out On Screen has events or tables at events to spread the word about our program. These events include, but certainly are not limited to, Pride Weekend, Dyke March, No Car Days, special screenings, co-presentations and more. You’re willing to accompany us throughout the year and frequently from June to August. You get a voucher for every 5 hours plus you get to get into whatever we take you to for free. Year round we love as many people as we can
get. During Festival season we love 5-10 for each neighbourhood team: Main, Drive,
Graphic Designers Under the direction of Director of Members and
Operations Personality You love to design things. You know InDesign inside out or at least functionally. You may have some website skills. Once projects are finished you love handing over all the documents you created. Deadlines are your best friend. Occasionally throughout the year Out On Screen needs help designing new things or updating documents already in use. You can use our office or your own. When time permits you help out. For every 5 hours you design, you receive a voucher to a film. As big as it can get! IT Wizards Tech Savvy? When our hard drives go soft or our network bytes the dust, we need IT support to help with our systems. Butches Under the direction of Director of Members and
Operations Personality You’re not just a stereotype cause you like to build, fix and lift things. You don’t mind getting a little hot and sweaty when the time comes. You own tools and know how to use them. Sometimes you just need a butch. We have things that need moving and fixing all the time, especially during the festival. It is hard to say how much time is needed. We could always use someone to come in and fix things for us. During the festival, we need help during the day when we switch venues and late at night after big parties. There are never enough butches. Drivers Under the direction of Director of Members and
Operations Personality Ya’know you have a car, you like to drive it. You don’t mind lifting heavy things. There are certain times of the year, especially in the summer, that we need drivers to pick up stuff for us. You are available during business hours
especially in the summer. Vouchers for your hours. We offer mileage at
$0.30/km. No limits to the amount of cars and drivers we have at our disposal. Guide & Copy Editors Under direction of Media Relations Coordinator Personality You read Eats, Shoots and Leaves and have a strong opinion about it. When people don’t understand the difference between syntax and semantics you lose your mind. You know when to use a semi-colon and what irony really means. You police our style sheets and check our syntax. You don’t have to write or edit for content. In May and June as we madly prepare our guide you will be available to read and edit from home or by coming into our office. You may be called upon other times during the year as well. 5 hours = 1 voucher, plus you know the films and schedule before everyone else. 2-3 volunteers Translators Can you read and write in another language? Do you want to increase accessibility of our festival to all communities in the Lower Mainland? Great! Lotto Under the direction of Box Office and Lottery

Plus every 5 hours of selling gets you a voucher. 10-15 volunteers Pride Parade Under the direction of Director of Members and
Operations Personality You’re outgoing, fun and like to party. You are not afraid to have 380,000 people look at you (or prepare someone else to have 380,000) people look at them. You’re creative and personable. Prepare Vancouver Queer Film Festival’s entry into the Pride Parade, participate in the parade and help out at various venues over the Pride Weekend. You want to spend some time in the weeks leading up to Pride preping for the Parade and of course you want to celebrate Pride with the Vancouver Queer Film Festival. Is 100 too many? Everyone still talks about how you moved that theme party to the park next door after the neighbour complained. You’re a problem solver and your not afraid to get dirty for a beautiful final product. Plus you love people. Help set up the amazing parties that the Vancouver Queer Film Festival throws. Perhaps drive around picking things up. Perhaps setting up a venue. greet festival patrons and check tickets, passes, and screening slips. They
ensure all patrons have appropriate access to their seats and the emergency
exits. Ensure that the garbage has not gotten too out of hand. In case of
emergency, guide patrons out of the venue. You must

you have a membership?” You like to count and make strangers struggle. You are
a good communicator. You see that there is a fine art to ticket ripping. You
like to say “queuing.” Line
control has many subtasks: pass counting, pass tracking, ticket counting, ticket
ripping, and runner. This is a details job, but it is also a communication job,

Recognition: Volunteers are the backbone of Out On Screen. You make this festival possible. Thank you so much! Although Out On Screen does many things,
our volunteer recognition centres around the Vancouver Queer Film Festival.
Along with a cool t-shirt, there is a wrap-up, dance party for volunteers and
vouchers for free tickets to the Festival. Volunteers are recognised with one
(1) ticket for each five (5) hours of logged volunteer time, up to a maximum of
15 tickets or 75 hours. Completed volunteer log sheets must be submitted in
exchange for your volunteer vouchers.
The vouchers may then be redeemed at any one of our ticket outlets for
actual tickets. Please note some
screenings may be restricted. You will be provided with complete voucher
guidelines closer to the festival.
