Volunteer Profile

Michele Thompson - Brayton_2.jpgName: Michele Thompson-Brayton
Occupation: Trophy Wife
Orientation: Lezzer
Relationship Status: Married
Hometown: Wanatchee, Washington
Years in BC: 1

1. Why do you volunteer for Out On Screen?
I married a little lady in Vancouver and now make it my home. Vancouver, that is. Well, and the little lady. I moved here from Seattle where I volunteered with the Seattle Gay & Lesbian Film Festival and the Northwest Film Forum for years. While I await Canadian residency, I wanted to keep busy and be involved in the queer community and the film and video scene. Where better than Out On Screen to do that? I’ve volunteered at a lot of places in Vancouver and Out On Screen is by far the best—the most organised, the most appreciative of their volunteers and the most all around fun

2. What do you like about your community?
I’m working on finding my community here still. I don’t know many people yet and I’m introverted so it’s going to take some time.

3. Your all-time favourite film at the VQFF?

20 Centimeters! The cinematography, the emotional journey the film took me on…it was a perfect way to end a great festival in 2006.

4. Where you can be found on a typical Saturday night?
At home, drunk, making my own videos to Stevie Nicks songs. What, is that an American thing?

5. Where you can be found on a typical Sunday morning?
In the kitchen cooking up a tofu scramble for me and the hungover wife with four cats watching.

6. Favourite Out On Screen moment?

Showing up with my semi-weekly offering of vegan cupcakes for the staff and getting to enjoy the happiness they brought. Because that’s what a good trophy wife does: bakes and volunteers.

** The staff sure appreciate those delicious cupcakes, Thanks Michele!
