The Vancouver Out On Screen Film Society is a registered charity and professional queer arts organization dedicated to celebrating queer lives through film, education and dialogue. Our vision? Currently we deliver on our mission with two core programs:

The annual Vancouver Queer Film Festival is the city's second largest film festival showcasing cutting-edge films from around the world and hosting panels, forums, parties and more.
Out in Schools is a unique education program which brings film-based anti-bullying workshops to high schools across BC. In 2011, Out in Schools was recognized as one of Tide Canada's Top Ten Charities to build innovative solutions to complex social issues.

About the Position

Located in our office in Downtown Vancouver - the Manager, Development & Fundraising position is a new role on our team that will involve strategically leading the design, execution and evaluation of private sector fundraising. With a focus on Individual and Corporate giving, the successful incumbent will effectively engage fundraising volunteers and program staff alike. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the incumbent will also be an active participant in strategizing and crafting the organization's communications.

Accountability:

Reports directly to the Executive Director.

Reporting to the Manager, Development & Fundraising are three staff members:
Corporate Relations Officer
Donor Services & Communications Coordinator (part-time)
Marketing Coordinator (seasonal contract)

Key Performance Objectives:

Over the last five years, we have reduced our reliance on government funding (from 50% to 23%) by developing dynamic fundraising programs. The successful candidate will build on these synergies and key deliverables for this role will include:

Reaching out to your diverse network of corporate contacts to help our organization increase private sector revenues from $565,000 to $650,000 in the first 2 years
As someone who excels in building relationships, you will help us invigorate major gift campaigns built on compelling cases for support to increase our donor database to 600 + after 2 years
Being a natural networker, engage an active community of supporters by creating and implementing a multi-faceted communications strategy within the first 18 months
Using your diverse background or relatable experience in development and fundraising, create, implement and execute effective annual gift campaigns that are strategically positioned to raise funds effectively and efficiently
Collaborating closely with the Executive Director, set personal and overall revenue targets for the year that poise the organization for future growth and staff development. This will include developing an annual operating budget for the development department and that monitors budget expenditures within the 1st year
As a leader, you will have experience developing at least 3 staff members and providing coaching and mentorship

Key Challenges:

One of the challenges you'll face as a leader is a relatively new development team with one or more newly developed positions.
One of the challenges you'll face fundraising is a finite budget and limited communications and marketing resources.

We would really like to see:

A confident individual with a minimum of two years leading a fundraising team, or relatable experience
Proficient with donor or sales database software (we use eTapestry) or the ability to pick up software programs quickly and with enthusiasm
A leader who is forward-thinking and uses their creative ability to handle challenges in the non-profit sector
Has a knack for developing rapport with our kind donors, and creating new connections with prospects
Is a natural story-teller and can embody and convey the values of our team and organization
Tactful, diplomatic and know when to use your discretion
