These days you can’t throw your cowboy hat in Hollywood without hitting a gay love story, but queer representation in film hasn’t always been so prolific. Picking up where Vito Russo’s classic The Celluloid Closet left off, Fabulous! The Story of Queer Cinema is an account of how we got from limited, moralistic and clichéd representations to films like Brokeback Mountain.

Award-winning directorial team Lisa Ades and Lesli Klainberg celebrate queer film history from the 1940s to the cutting edge queer cinema of today, featuring interviews with queer luminaries such as John Waters, Arthur Dong, Guinevere Turner, John Cameron Mitchell, Ang Lee, Todd Haynes and B. Ruby Rich and clips from landmark films like Go Fish, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Heavenly Creatures, Tongues Untied and many more.

What a perfect way to celebrate Queerwood!
